Darkness falls,
The cloak of evil claiming all the world.
The One to save us from our sins,
Our highest hope’s become our deepest loss.
We put our one Light out upon a cross,
And all is darkness now.
___
Cold and dark
The death-cave where we lay our only Light,
Nothing but a shadow now.
God has forsaken as we forsook Him.
We put our one Light out upon a cross,
And all is darkness now.
___
Dark and deep
The shadows as the soldiers seal the tomb,
Mirrors of our darkened hearts.
We shall not see our vanquished hope again.
We put our one Light out upon a cross,
And all is darkness now.
___
Three dark days,
The anguish of an eternity’s time
Pounding in our aching ears.
We feel the teeth of guilt gnawing on flesh.
We put our one Light out upon a cross,
And all is darkness now.
___
Morning light?
The familiar glow rouses broken hearts
From beyond the empty tomb.
Our living Hope spreads wide forgiving hands.
We found our one Light there upon the cross,
And all is brightness now.
