A Sunday Prayer

Today You burst the bonds of earth

and flew to heights of risen joy,

taking captive, captive host

giving gifts and life long lost

My feet, set squarely on the earth,

are disinclined to leap with joy.

Your captive mercy feels coerced

I (oh so faintly!) feel my dearth.

The truth I know, I feel the least.

Emotions leap for empty dreams.

I cling to things of earth and man.

I drink the dust and thirst again.

Let me thirst and feel my thirst.

Make me yearn and reach for Christ.

Let me see the joy I lost

when seeking joy outside the cross.

Break my bonds of drudgery,

frustrations, failures, worldly views,

lead me captive in Your train

to love Your glory, praise Your name.
