You are the only One I cannot see— I’ve searched the faces on my crowded way, athirst for You—Your arms of flesh—to lay my head upon. And must it never be? You go with us, but how invisibly! I miss Your eyes when I look up to pray and wonder why You hide them far […]

The body, languid, lowered from on high lies heavy, cold, and formless on the earth. The voice that drove the temple doves to sky the kingly hope— lies strangled in its birth. So all deceivers living in the dearth of truth will ever be. And now instead the rightful rulers: scribes and men of worth […]

grown from curled-up baby hands
to dirty, in-a-hurry boy hands

the hands still moving,
washing dirt from feet.

blameless, righteous, holy hands,
the died-and-lives-forever hands,

Just so–the trail […]

They came at close of Sabbath day. Two solitary figures, they just as the sun had set. Where once it threw its blazing life light into view the sky around; before the orange gild had died away into the silent death and gray of night. And rested there, some place deep in earth, where it […]

If you had heard The Lord that day His words chased all the scribes away, then you would know the scriptures say that rocks and trees would sing His way. – If you had seen the learned priest schooled in scripture by the least of little words, then you would feast, on truth that’s […]
