The child’s eyes are staring at the fish
swimming ‘round in little endless rings.
Each time around the Beta tail will swish:
the fish inside is pondering on things.
He wonders why he cannot swim at all
beyond the fish tank’s curve. He deeply sighs.
His little head just plunks into the wall.
He thinks the world is bound by what he tries.
It’s clear enough that there must be a link
between the way that he can never pass
and what the boy can’t do. The fish would think
“I bet he’s always running into glass.”
In later years the boy will come to thank
his Beta for the lesson of the tank.
