New Year’s Display

The grass glows–

budded diamonds

pearly in the sun–

and silver frosted

chain adornments

dazzling the show

There’s a grace

to cold aloofness

gray as darkling hard

silent tufts of water-freeze fluff

lilting to the ground,

not a sound, or face.

But snow in sunlight,

like a dream night

waked from crystal sleep,

shines in wonder deep

from under

royal skies of bright
